At out first meeting we decided that we would each take one of the four cities to investigate and research into. The city I am looking into is Liverpool.

Travelling to Liverpool by train has never been easier or faster, when it’s only 2 hours 13 minutes from Central London on Virgin Trains’ state-of-the-art tilting Pendolino trains.London Midland Trains, First Transpennine Express and Northern Rail also run routes into Liverpool from all major UK cities.
Once in Liverpool, the Merseyrail train network has good links to other parts of the city region.
Sea
Arrive in Liverpool along the River Mersey and get the best views of the world-famous Liverpool Waterfront.Ferry routes between Liverpool and Belfast are operated by Stena Line Irish Sea Ferries, between Liverpool and Dublin by P&O Ferries, and between Liverpool and the Isle of Man by the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company.
The City of Liverpool Cruise Terminal is located on Liverpool Waterfront, part of the city’s UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Liverpool and the wider city region is served by one of the best-performing rail networks in the country. With frequent services connecting to over 88 stations, using the train is a quick and convenient way to explore the region.
Bus
Bus travel in and around Liverpool is a green, convenient and cost-effective way to explore the destination. The bus network is managed by Merseytravel, with two main city centre bus terminals – Liverpool ONE and Queen Square – complete with helpful staff who can provide personal travel advice. Most buses are fully accessible, with various ticketing options ensuring the very best value travel.From Lime Street Station to the Mersey Ferry, Anglican Cathedral and Liverpool ONE, the CityLink service is perfect for visiting all of the sights of Liverpool. With day tickets available from only £1.50 as well as regular services running every 12 minutes, it has never been so easy to explore Liverpool.
Ferry
The world-famous Mersey Ferries service is owned and managed by Merseytravel. As well as taking hundreds of thousands of people out on the Mersey each year, you can visit their range of attractions along the Liverpool and Wirral riverside, or enjoy a trip along the magnificent Manchester Ship Canal.Bike
It’s quick and easy to get around the city centre by bike, so you’ll be able to pack even more into your day. The nearest cycle parking to each venue is shown on the Liverpool Cycle Map. If you’re coming into town by train or ferry, bikes go free and are welcome on both, though please remember trains can be busy at peak times. The CityBike bicycle hire scheme is also available in the city centre.Green Spaces
Parks & Countryside
Liverpool has more parks than Paris; Calderstones, Croxteth, Sefton and Everton are just a few favourites.
Explore the sand dunes along the Sefton coast and be rejuvenated by the refreshing breeze as you stroll along Southport Pier. Try and spot a rare red squirrel at Formby Nature Reserve before enjoying a picnic in Southport’s Botanic Gardens.
Alternatively, head across to Wirral and stride out to Hilbre Islands Local Nature Reserve at West Kirby or along the Wirral Way. There’s also Birkenhead Park; designed by Sir Joseph Paxton and acknowledged to be the first publicly funded park in Britain and a model for Central Park in New York.

Sport
Football
The city region boasts three historic football clubs. Everton and Liverpool are separated by just one mile and are two of the Premiership’s finest. Wirral’s Tranmere Rovers play in League One at Prenton Park in Birkenhead.
Golf
The region is also home to England’s Golf Coast, the finest stretch of championship golf in the world, with no fewer than three Royal Links courses which have hosted endless Open Championships and Ryder Cups. These include Royal Birkdale in Southport and Royal Liverpool at Hoylake in Wirral.
Horse-Racing
Horse-racing is huge in the city; Aintree and Haydock racecourses offer top-quality racing including the world-famous Grand National Festival at Aintree each spring.
Rugby League
St Helens (Saints) are the most successful Rugby League club of the Super League era.
Other
A wide variety of sports are covered across the region. Runners can choose from several top races including the Rock n’ Roll Marathon, there’s top-flight tennis at Liverpool International Tennis Tournament and watersports on Queen’s Dock.
Liverpool Echo Arena hosts large-scale sporting events such as boxing and gymnastics.
