BRIEF 08 - LOOKBOOKS - AVEC CES FRERES 15 - CONCEPT AND IDEA DEVELOPMENT

For the lookbook I needed to source the images. For this I went to the Avec Ces Freres and took the images from the website. The problem with this is that the images will be a 72dpi meaning that they will not be of high enough quality to print. They can be resized and the dpi increased but the print quality will still be poor.

With the photographs sourced I began to write down the concept I thought would work well with these images. With the concept of the line - Dance - and having a black and white image and a full colour image, I wanted to use a transparent stock. The concept involves 3 stocks, a cover stock, a transparent stock and a plain white stock. My feeling of the company is that they are very material focused and that it is a key part of their design. Due to this, I think the cover stock should be very tactile and have ordered a collection f samples rom G. F. Smith to see if any are suitable and what I have in mind.

The black and white more expressive photograph will be printed on a slightly transparent stock, possibly tracing paper. The full colour photograph would then be printed on white stock and arranged behind the trace so that the colour image came through the trace.

I began by working out my pages and the content / number of each one. This would allow me to sort out the pagination and imposition for printing and binding.

I also made decisions on what content would be on what pages.

I decided where I thought the information on the outfit should go. I still needed to decide on a binding method and typeface to use throughout the lookbook.

I then worked out the pagination and imposition of each stock. This would aid me when digitally designing and laying out the lookbook.

The cover was simple as it was only 4 pages or two spread of which two pages are blank.

The trace and white stock were more difficult as the stocks did not follow straight after each other, they were mixed together. I made this easier by creating a mock up using three different stocks.

From this point on I was able to digitally lay out and design the lookbook.
