I initially just added some issue related content to see how this would work with my layout ideas. I liked how this was laid out with just the name of the publication, the title of the issue and the new content in this issue.
My favourite idea from all of my possible cover, was the one above. The reason I liked this was because it combined a structured, identifiable logo with a variable layout. My initial experimentation with this design was to use the whole logo, adding a full bleed image and some placeholder text where issue relevant content would go. I found this to be extremely effective.
One of the reasons I really like this cover concept is due to how well it can be adapted to fit different situations and covers. Here I only used the lines from the original cover concept and combined it with a logotype and issue number. These were all applied in an overprint colour that could then be used throughout the publication.
After this experiment I decided that I preferred single monotone or duotone image covers and that my favourite cover design was the one that uses both the lines and the text combined.
At this point we had a crit and I presented this work so that I could get some feedback and opinions on it.
