BRIEF 02 - TCN STUDENT AWARDS / WHISTLES - RESEARCH

For the research, I initially started looking into the companies that the brief suggested.

Comme des Garcons

Comme des Gracons have a very distinctive bottle shape used throughout their fragrances. The colour changes depending on the fragrance and the bottle changes for special fragrances or collaborations.

The imagery and layout used is good as it keeps it simple whilst getting across all of the information and not detracting from the bottle.

With fragrances you cannot sell a smell. the concept that must be sold is a lifestyle, using the campaign, bottle and packaging, making these design decisions of paramount importance.

I also looked at a company that i think get it right - Aesop. Aesop promote a whole ideal through their unique shows, medicinal style bottles and ethos.

Another brand that I think have got it entirely right are Helmut Lang. Like Whistles, they were initially a clothing brand but wanted to bring out a fragrance, both for him and her. The whole project from campaign, to packaging, to website perfectly reflects the ethos of the company creating a very effective outcome.

I also did some broader research into bottles and packaging of a variety of different brands.

Monocle:

For All Time:

As well as looking at the product and packaging of brands, I also looked into their imagery and the campaigns that they produced to sell the product.

Saint Laurent:

As well as the full shots, the Saint Laurent details also create strong and striking imagery. The interaction between the models is also very powerful and sells the lifestyle effectively.

Acne Studios:

Acne Studios also focus on details and parts of the anatomy, combined with simple text over the top provides a striking advert.
